the build

Built for year-round use.

A spa isn’t a downsized pool. The way it’s plumbed, heated, jetted, and insulated determines whether you’ll actually use it three times a week in January or write it off as expensive landscaping.

We design and build spas from a starting point most Arizona builders skip: how you’ll actually use it. Therapy spa for back recovery? Different jet placement. Family entertaining spillway spa? Different integration with the pool. Year-round spool for the only water feature you have room for? Different equipment sizing. Every choice gets made on purpose.

You’ll work with the same family-owned team that builds our pools, with the same line-item pricing and the same standards for heater sizing, automation, and insulation. The spa heats fast, holds temperature, and lasts.

The Desertscape difference

Most builders treat the spa as an add-on. We engineer it as its own system.
01

Properly sized heater

Most off-the-shelf spa heaters are undersized for Arizona winter use. We spec heaters that bring water to temperature fast and hold it efficiently, not at the breaking point.

02

Therapy-grade jet layout

Jet placement is designed around how you'll actually sit in the spa, not pre-set by a stock shell. Therapy seats, lounge configuration, and hydrotherapy options are mapped before tile goes up.

03

Spillway integration with the pool

When the spa connects to a pool, the spillway, plumbing, and shared equipment are engineered together so the system runs efficiently in both directions.

04

Insulation that matters

Heat retention is everything on a spa. We use proper shell insulation and cover specs so you're not heating from cold every time.

05

Smart automation included

Phone control for heat, jets, lighting, and salt cell. Schedule the spa to be hot when you want it, not 45 minutes after you walk outside.

what homeowners ask

Custom Spas FAQs
Can a spa be added to my existing pool?

Often, yes. We assess your existing equipment pad, plumbing, and electrical capacity during the inspection. Some additions are clean retrofits; others require equipment upgrades that we'll quote in the proposal.

How long does a custom spa take to build?

Standalone spas typically take 8 to 10 weeks. When built simultaneously with a custom pool, the spa is included in the overall 15–16 week pool timeline.

How much does a custom spa cost?

Most custom spas fall between $25K and $50K depending on size, integration with a pool, finishes, and water features. We'll give you a transparent range up front and a full line-item proposal.

What’s the difference between a spa, a hot tub, and a spool?

A hot tub is an above-ground, mass-produced unit. A spa is custom-built in-ground (or raised) and engineered with your home and pool. A spool is a compact custom pool/spa hybrid for smaller yards where one structure serves both functions.

Will the spa be hot when I want it?

Yes, when it's properly sized. Most stock spa setups undersize the heater for Arizona winter use, which means slow heat-up and high gas bills. We spec the heater for your climate and usage, with automation that lets you schedule heat-up from your phone.
